Mangrose’s multicoloured leopard ray does not exist in nature: it is a poetic and joyful interpretation of this fascinating marine animal. A symbol of freedom and grace, it evokes the beauty of the oceans and the fragility of underwater life.

Also known as the eagle ray, the leopard ray is part of the shark family. Its undulating swim, comparable to a bird in flight, makes it a true dancer of the seas. Found in the tropical Atlantic – from the Caribbean to the Gulf of Guinea – it lives in small groups in shallow waters, between coral reefs and sandy bottoms.

Now classified as near threatened by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature), the leopard ray suffers from slow reproduction and accidental fishing. In Martinique, where the pink mangrove tree Mangrose first appeared, its capture and sale are now prohibited.
