Mangrose a committed brand
Curiously and paradoxically Mangrose was born from a form of rejection of fashion, from the refusal to produce far away, always cheaper and faster, by exploiting a low-wage workforce and this at catastrophic ecological costs for our planet and ourselves: Humans.
The incessant renewal of collections and the explosion of “ultra fast fashion” has led fashion to a kind of uncontrollable overconsumption that is ever more destructive for our environment and our climate.
This observation pushed us to want to write our own chapter.
Do our part and offer a reasoned, eco-responsible brand, working for animals, nature and people.
The objective is to use the medium of fashion to communicate creatively and raise public awareness of these causes, through the prism of art, drawing and illustration.
It is also to discuss topics that sometimes overwhelm us, preventing us from even knowing where to start to make change.
And then one day we realized that among the 8.5 billion people that we are on earth, we each represent a fraction of this population: a billionth: it’s you, it’s me. This is exactly where we can act. We all have the power to act, to change our point of view. Do our part, each at our own level and move forward together.
Mangrose
Our brand name
The name “Mangrose” was first mentioned a few years ago in Martinique. A contraction of “Pink Mangrove”, it echoes a new phenomenon due to global warming in these tropical regions.
During the dry season which lasts a few weeks, the water in the mangrove becomes more concentrated in salt due to the evaporation of fresh water. This promotes the development of microalgae rich in carotene. The spectacle that follows then appears quite spectacular and marvelous: the appearance of a pink Mangrove: the Mangrose.
Bertrand Lacaze
The founder
I created the Mangrose brand because I refuse to give up in the face of injustices, atrocities and the damage that humans are doing to our planet and its biodiversity.
A few years ago, in 2009, in Honfleur in Normandy, I created the KUTSUTO brand: decorative objects and accessories representing characters from our international societies, decoded in an ironic and naive way. After a career in fashion, particularly in visual merchandising, in France and New York, I wanted to create an eco-responsible brand that makes sense on subjects that affect us all today: animal protection, environmental protection and societal causes.
Passionate about nature and wildlife, I believe that we must stop sacrificing animals and ecosystems for futile or commercial purposes. I am convinced that each of us can take small actions that will make a difference. So let’s spread beautiful messages! Let’s go! I hope you like the Mangrose brand and that you will enjoy wearing our models.

I'm not a militant, and my aim with Mangrose is to tackle important issues in a gentle, creative way.

Our brand’s purpose
Mangrose carries in its DNA the protection of animals, the respect for our environment and the fight against all forms of discrimination. Our brand was envisaged as a graphic and creative communication medium in order to defend causes, denounce anomalies while having a positive approach in our drawings.
We do not wish to frighten or stress our customers but rather to evoke, challenge and lead to new thinking through our drawings. Our models are created to be easily worn, they are not part of a trend but rather a style that will become yours and that suits you.
Each theme covered on our sweatshirts and t-shirts is developed in more details on our blog.
Each season, we donate 5 euros per model sold to an association in connection with the design and the cause defended. This year:
* Jane Goodall Institute: chimpanzee protection.
* WWF: protection of the environment and biodiversity.
* Coral Gardeners: protection and preservation of coral worldwide.
* Fondation Le Refuge: sheltering and support for LGBT+ young people rejected by their families.
Our topics
Mangrose was born from this reflection: through sweatshirts and T-shirts: discussing subjects, highlighting causes, making exchanges possible, creating new conversations that were previously difficult or impossible. The subjects that we address and defend are grouped around 3 levers:

The animal cause
(use of fur, poaching, intensive breeding, etc.)

Environmental causes
(protection of the environment, ecosystems and biodiversity in the broad sense)

Societal causes
(fight against all forms of discrimination: homophobia, racism etc.)
Our values and commitments
Our know-how
Sketching
We use several techniques to create our designs. Inspiration can come from a first sketch scribbled in a notebook and then reworked and enlarged. The drawing can be entirely done by hand then reworked on a computer or our initial idea is very clear and we start directly with a digital drawing on a computer. We work with pencil, felt-tip pen, tracing paper, cutting out pieces of paper, in short, in a way that's both traditional and digital..., en bref de faço
Sourcing fabrics
The idea for the Mangrose collections was to use soft, non-polluting materials to make our models. We have specifically selected organic cotton for its extreme softness and also for its impact on the environment. At Mangrose we make it a point of honor not to bring fabrics from the other side of the world, so as to limit our carbon footprint on the planet as much as possible with transport. Our cotton fleece is therefore woven and dyed in Portugal. We have a nice choice of colors which allows us to combine the aesthetic side with the ecological side of our materials.
Manufacturing
Our cotton is grown and spun in Turkey for climate and heat reasons, then the fleece is woven and dyed in the North of Portugal in a region where ancestral know-how rubs shoulders with cutting-edge technology. The models are then cut, sewn and dyed locally. The carbon finishes are also carried out on site to give our models a remarkably soft touch.
Printing
Printing is an integral part of our creative process. Depending on the model, it can be done digitally on the garment, by transfer or using cutting-edge technology with 3D ink which swells on contact with heat in an oven specially designed to create a subtly raised effect. All our prints, digital, 3D digital and our embroideries are produced by our partner workshop: its expertise and great care thus give our collections impeccable finishes and quality.
Packing
All our models are packaged and sent in kraft paper envelopes or in small boxes if necessary. In order to remain consistent with our beliefs and values, we do not add any other packaging to the products, in order to limit waste. The media we use can thus be recycled. Our envelopes also have a double opening system, making it easier to return a model if necessary, thus avoiding our customers having to provide new packaging. We want to maintain an eco-responsible approach from design to delivery.
